10 Things You Can Do
Here's ten recommendations for individuals to make a difference. Multiply your impact on the world, by helping others make a change for the better.
Green Your Diet
Greening your diet and avoiding animal products improves your health, redirects valuable food resources, protects the environment, reduces global warming, and saves animals (farm animals and wildlife). Just starting? Request a Free Vegetarian Starter Kit and receive the Meatout Mondays e-newsletter with recipes and health information. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is our recommended source for detailed nutrition guidance.
Know Your Topic
Read through the information provided on this website. See especially our reports and links pages, as well as highlighted links throughout the website.
Give a Presentation
Students, toastmasters and other civic or religious group members can give presentations using our materials. Also encourage your cafeteria and social groups to provide a variety of meat-free choices.
Table at an Event
Use special occasions like World Hunger Day, Earth Day, and The Great American Meatout to set up an info table and distribute information.
Distribute Educational Materials
Take leaflets, advocacy postcards, or other handouts to bookstores, health food stores, doctor's offices, or other appropriate, high-traffic areas. E-mail us for handouts. Fact sheets and other materials are available in the printed resources section.
Vote with Your Shopping Dollars
Purchase more whole and minimally-processed foods. Non-frozen, locally-grown and organic foods also make a big difference. Reduce your dependence on traditional grocery chains. Consider supporting or set up a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program in your area. Request meat-free, egg-free and dairy-free products from stores and restaurants. Want something specific? Then let your voice be heard. Get extra attention for your request, by putting it in writing and/or making a personal request from retail managers. See our Top 12 Ways to Eat Green for more details.
Work with Environmental and Food Groups
Examine the basic assumptions that underlie discussions and decision-making and offer solutions that reduce dependence on animal agriculture, especially large-scale production.
Connect Issues
Build on your current strengths and networks. Figure out how the WFW topics fit with your current interests and help others see the connections. Use our materials or help us create new ones. If you are not in a group, consider joining one.
Be a Role Model
Stay healthy and keep a positive attitude to encourage others.
